How to get a marriage license in Travis County

After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned state bans on gay marriage Friday, Travis County clerk Dana DeBeauvoir announced her office would issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples starting at 10:30 a.m. Here’s what you need to know about where to go, what to bring and what to expect, according to the clerk’s office.
Where the Travis County Clerk’s Office is located:5501 Airport Blvd, Austin Texas 78751
Hours for marriage licenses to be issued:
- On Friday, anyone in line by 6:30 p.m. will be served.
- Next week, the office will open at 8:00 a.m. and will serve anyone in line by 6:30 p.m., including on July 3.
- Over the holiday weekend, the office will also be open on July 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on July 5 from noon to 5 p.m.
Documents needed:
- Proof of identity and age (possible documents include an official copy of a birth certificate, a driver’s license or a state-issued identification card, a passport, a visa or military identification)
- A Social Security number for each applicant (if the applicant has one). Applicants do not need to bring their Social Security card.
Costs:
- $81, which can be paid with cash or a credit/debit card. No checks will be accepted.
- The fee may be waived for “certain members of the military who are preparing to be deployed to a hostile-fire zone,” the clerk’s office says, and the fee may be reduced for “individuals who provide a certificate of completion of the Texas Twogether Program.”
